Crosswinds Suck
7/20/2005
Yet another lesson focusing on crosswind landings...
These are giving me real trouble. My brain's beginning to comprehend what coordination of rudder and aileron is required, but transferring that data from my brain to my hands and feet is rather confusing. It suddenly sunk in today that I need to stay SQUARE with the runway using small rudder input, and keep CENTER of the runway line using ailerons. I also realized that the closer you get to touch-down, the more sensitive and quick those input responses need to be.
We performed 10 landings, I performed one good one - probably #4, obviously that one was just luck, seeing as the rest resembled an alcoholic landing sideways on an aircraft carrier...
I seem to be at that frustrating point right now. Bruce keep telling me its just practice, practice....and it will suddenly "click" into place. I hope he is right - I am beginning to think I will break the "longest to solo" record.
I tried to go get my class 3 medical this week too (needed for solo - not that i need right now :-|). It turns out I need prescription glasses. I found a great deal at www.39dollarglasses.com. Well I say a "great deal" - they should arrive tomorrow by DHL, then we will see whether i got a "great deal", or a pair of glasses that look like the bottoms of two coke bottles...
